We Need Your Help...

The Ecumenical Franciscans of the Renewal are pleased to be the world headquarters for the Christ Enlight program (www.ChristEnlight.org).  Together we have a dream of buying a monastery that would become the headquarters of the EFR and Christ Enlight.  As you look at the pictures to the right of this article, we suspect that your idea of a monastery is probably not unlike the lower picture.  Ours is more like the upper picture.  Of course, we would paint the outside of the building, but our goal is to buy an older, urban home and renovate it to become our monastery.

Why an urban home?  We seek an urban home because of the Franciscan heritage, which calls us to serve the poor.  To serve the poor in an authentic way, we must live among them and become an oasis of hope.  While much good is done with funds contributed from afar, our cities are becoming wastelands due to the economic withdraw on the part of businesses and of the economically more fortunate.  "White flight" has become "economic flight", and the reality is that for many in our poorest neighborhoods there is no way out.  How can one possibly secure employment if they don't own a car and there are no businesses near their home or accessible by public transportation?

Won't you consider a tax deductable contribution today?  Quite literally, every dollar helps.  To learn more about the project and how you can help, send an email to TheEFR@gmail.com.  Thank you for your consideration!
